Blue Lake pole bean seeds produce pods that are straight, stringless and unusually smooth, with a stronger flavour than the bush variety. Plants bear lots of dark green pods that are round to oval, tender and meaty, 15-18cm (6-7") long.

Blue Lake has a very long harvest window, and will keep producing new pods as long as the vines are kept picked. Provide a pole or trellis for this tall vine to grow up. This variety is hugely popular for its productivity in the Prairies and other short season growing regions.

Sowing: Plant Blue Lake pole bean seeds after the last frost, since these stringless pole beans are very sensitive to cold. Place the seeds 2" deep and 10" apart, allowing them to grow on a trellis or other vertical support as soon as they emerge from the soil. If using a teepee structure, plant them in groups of 5-6 plants per pole. Germination usually takes place in 14-20 days. For companion planting benefits, plant pole beans with corn; this provides natural support for both the vines and the corn stalks.

Growing: Keep the soil moist to ensure healthy plants and a productive crop, taking care not to disturb the blossoms as they form. Mulch helps conserve moisture, control weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
Harvesting;
Regular harvesting is the number one way to guarantee a prolonged bean harvest. You should pick your beans at least every other day, and you should pick you beans before their pods swell and fill up with seeds.
When the seeds finish forming inside the pods, it sends a signal to the plant to stop growing, which is something you don't want, so keep those beans picked.Also, when beans pods get too big, they are not as tender and tasty as when they are young bean pods.
