Bloom Summer to fall

Dahlia Akita is a wonderful decorative dahlia that is a dark crimson with hues of orange and tipped white.  Decorative dahlias produce double blooms that look just superb. This Dahlia looks fantastic in any garden and will produce flowers all summer long.

A wonderful addition to your garden or landscape. Dahlia Akita boasts fiery red and orange petals. This Dahlia will thrive in sunny borders and also makes excellent fresh cut flowers..

Dahlias are grown from a Tuberous Root. Flowers are good for cutting. Just one flower would be a lovely display! Compact bedding dahlias are ideal for container gardens and for flower beds. Use to add height and color to gardens. This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies and/or birds!

Plant Indoors: Dahlias are best started off indoors from January to March as they are sensitive to frosts. Plant them in a mix of multi-purpose compost, sand and grit as this will provide drainage for the tuber. Always protect young shoots from snails and slugs. When the fear of frosts has passed the tuber can be re-planted outside or the container positioned outdoors.

Plant outside: Dahlias can be planted outside from Late March on wards, when the signs of frost have passed. Plant tubers into well prepared soils in late March to April. Soils should be cultivated to a depth of 20cms to allow good root development. Plant tubers in fertile soils with 5cms of soil above the top of the tuber.

Please note that pinching of the secondary buds will produce even larger flowers. Average Water Needs; Water regularly; do not overwater.
