Tons of Huge Sweet Blueberries from an Award Winning Variety

This self-pollinating variety is a heavy producer, requiring only one plant. Enjoy fresh, organic blueberries right from the plant with this multi-purpose berry. Use for eating, cooking, and baking purposes.
  • Cold Hardy to USDA Zone: 4
  • Mature Height:  4'-6' (Medium)
  • Sun: Full Sun
  • Ripening Time: Midseason/July
  • Pollination: Partially Self Fertile

The Northern Highbush Toro Blueberry variety needs 800-1000 chill hours to produce fruit. The berries are large, juicy, and sweet with no tartness. They are great for fresh eating, baking, and cooking. This plant self-pollinates and yields a heavy crop, making it the perfect choice if you only have room for one plant.

The Toro Blueberry is a highly coveted mid-season bush that stands at a height of 5 to 6 feet and a width of 3 to 4 feet. Its bell-shaped white and pink flowers bring a feminine touch to the landscape in spring, while producing ripe berries in July. Its dark green foliage is both attractive and crisp, and the stunning red fall foliage adds a vibrant touch to the scenery. This shrub is often used for its ornamental value and is known as the most beautiful blueberry bush.

Key Features:

A prolific producer with large, sweet berries. This hardy blueberry offers a huge yield of plump, tasty blueberries that are packed with nutritional benefits.
Dual duty as a pretty landscape shrub or hedge!
Grow your own healthy fruit with the Toro Blueberry plant. This blueberry plant is compact enough to grow in containers.
Self fertile. You only need one plant to get plenty of fruit from the Toro Blueberry.

Pro Tip: While the Toro Blueberry is self-pollinating, cross pollination from another Northern Highbush variety like the blueray or the bluecrop will increase the yield and even the fruit size of your Toro Blueberry bush.

Planting Instructions: Prepare the ground well before planting. Blueberries prefer an acid soil. In alkaline soil, add ammonium sulfate for best results. Dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. Set the plant in place so the crown (part of the plant where the root meets the stem) is about 1-2 inches below the soil surface. When planting, add generous amounts of peat but no fertilizer. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly. Blueberries can also be grown in large pots and containers if compost is used. Prune in winter, cutting out dead or damaged branches. In spring, feed with sulphate of ammonia, sulphate of potash, bonemeal and top-dress with compost.

Pests or Diseases: No serious insect or disease problems. You may protect your fruit from birds with netting.
