Tropical perennial grown as an annual in the temperate north. 120 days to maturity. Native to Brazil. This particular strain is green leaved and has very conical flowers, yellow, with the characteristic bright crimson "fisheye" at the apex., probably the strongest variety for use in medicine.
Acmella oleracea Also known as Paracress, Toothache Plant, Electric Daisy, Electric Buttons, Buzz Buttons, Peek-A-Boo, Eyeball Plant.
Acmella oleracea , also known under its old names Spilanthes oleracea and Spilanthes acmella and commonly referred to as Spilanthes Extract, is a flowering herb in the plant family Asteraceae , also known as toothache plant or paracress as the leaves and flower heads contain an analgesic agent spilanthol used to numb toothache. It is native to the tropics of Brazil , and is grown as an ornamental (and occasionally as a medicinal) in various parts of the world. A small, erect plant, it grows quickly and sends up gold and red flower inflorescences. It is frost-sensitive but perennial in warmer climates.
Comments:
This looks like a really cool plant. I haven't grown one myself, but now that we have seed in stock (for the first time) I'm going to give it a try. It is an interesting looking short garden flower. The leaves are quite ornamental and remind me of Hybiscus leaves. The flowers are button like round heads mostly yellow with red centers. These curiosities are well worth growing, if only for the conversation factor!
