DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Oaxacan Green Dent Corn has been grown by the Zapotec people of southern Mexico for centuries for green corn tamales made from fresh green corn masa. Corn kernals are smooth in beautiful, striking shades of green from bronze to pea-green to emerald-green. Dried kernels are ground into a delicious, nutty, green flour, which makes some of the best cornbread you'll ever taste. Fresh dent corn is excellent roasted on a bar-b-que as it carmelizes the sugars into a rich, hearty flavor unlike anything else. Drought resistant, sturdy, 5 - 6 ft. plants produce emerald green kernels on 6 - 8 inch ears.
Oaxacan Green Dent
95 days — As its names suggests, these large ears have kernels that are colored mostly in shades of green. Fairly early maturing for a dent-type corn and has good vigor. The corn stocks reach about seven feet in height and produce ears ranging between seven to ten inches in length.
Reportedly, this variety originates from Southern Mexico where it has been cultivated for centuries. The local people use it for corn flour and make it into tortillas and tamales. And like any dent corn, it can also be used for livestock feed. It is grown by market growers for its interesting, ornamental value. Green corn kernels are actually fairly uncommon. Each packet contains one ounce, which is approximately 100 seeds.
Sowing:
Sow seeds directly in the garden in spring after soil has warmed. Does best in deeply cultivated soil that is high in nitrogen. To aid pollination, avoid planting in a single row. For succession, plant every 3 weeks until early summer.
