Popular in Mexico, serrano peppers are slowly making their way into more American cuisine. Immature serranos are green and mature to a deep 

red, about three inches long and 1/2 inch around.

Serrano peppers are very similar looking to jalapenos but are 4 to 5 times hotter, coming in at 10,000 to 20,000 

Scoville heat units, compared to 5,000 to 8,000 for the jalapeno pepper.

Serrano peppers are very common in guacamole and many salsas. Learn more about this versatile pepper to create many dishes that your friends will love.

Serrano pepper plants grow to a height anywhere in between 24 to 36 inches tall and should be planted 18 to 24 inches in full sunlight. Water 

occasionally but do not over water and avoid peppers that are soft, bruised or have wrinkled skin or spots of mold

Matures to dark red. Days to maturity are from time plants are set in garden. For 

transplants, add 8-10 weeks. Space plants 18-24" apart. 

CAUTION: Use rubber gloves or clean hot peppers under running water to avoid skin 

burn from the pepper juice.
