Perennial (tender). Perennial in the tropics and as a houseplant, otherwise grown as an annual. Touch sensitive plant’s leaves and watch them fold right before your eyes! An entire branch will droop with increased agitation. Bring it indoors to a sunny window for the winter for an interesting conversation piece. Pink puffball flowers add to its charm. Unlike other plants with leaf movement, sensitive plant is not carnivorous.

When to sow outside: 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost.

When to start inside: 8 to 10 weeks before average last frost. Sow in pulp pots to avoid root disturbance when transplanting.

Special germination instructions: Soak seeds in water for 12- 24 hours before sowing. Germinates best at 70° F.

At night, the leaves assume a folded or sleeping posture. When the plant is touched or in response to applying heat, the leaves can move very rapidly, and the plant can snap its leaves shut. The plant has many other names: Sleeping Grass, Prayer Plant, Humble Plant, Tickle Me Plant, and Touch Me Not. The Mimosa Pudica plant makes a nice house plant and can be grown in a bright, sunny window. The Mimosa Pudica Sensitive Plant has pink, silky flower and attractive, bright green leaves.

Growing Mimosa Pudica from flower seed is not difficult. It is recommend to soak the seeds 24 hours in water. Press the Mimosa Pudica seeds into the soil and lightly cover with 1/8 inch of soil. Keep the flower seed moist until germination. Covering the pot with clear plastic can help to hold in the moisture, but remove the plastic as soon as there is a sprout.
