How to Plant RUNNER BEAN Seeds
When to sow outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost and when temperatures are warm. NOTE: In very hot summer areas such as the South and Southwest, sow in March for June harvest, and August for late September harvest.
When to start inside: Not recommended.
Harvesting: If harvested as a snap bean, harvest runner beans very young. They are ready to pick when the pod snaps or breaks in half cleanly This is when seeds have just begun to form and the pods are 4" - 6" long. Hold stem with one hand and the pod with the other hand to avoid pulling off branches which may continue to produce. At seasons end, plants are great compost material if not disease
