The benefits of wheatgrass are well known, from purifying the blood to offering concentrated nutrition from just a small amount. And these seeds will bear thick, uniform shoots. All you need is a tray and a bit of water, and within days you'll see the new green blades shooting up! The harvest is ready in less than 2 weeks -- sometimes less than 1 week! -- and is so good for you.
There are two ways to grow these seeds: without any soil on a tray or shelf, or in any good potting mix. If you choose the "no soil" method, just soak the seeds in water overnight. Then spread them in a single layer on a clean, waterproof tray or dish. Next, cover them with wet paper. The seeds need darkness to germinate, so covering with paper is essential. Once they have sprouted, remove the paper.
To grow in potting mix, simply cover the seeds with Â¼-inch of soil and keep moist. Again, because darkness is needed for germination, be sure to cover the seeds. That's all there is to it!
Sprout Growing Guide
Once you have your sprout seeds you probably won't be using all of the seeds at once. In this case you will want to store your seeds in a cool, dark dry place like a pantry closet. Keep sealed in a plastic bag to protect from moisture. Do not freeze seeds.
Soaking your seeds is one of the most skipped and important steps to being successful in sprouting. Sprout seeds should be soaked for 8-12 hours to ensure good soaking. Warm water will shorten the time needed to soak.
Sprouts need to be rinsed 2-3 times every day to ensure adequate moisture levels. To keep water fresh and seeds happy rinsing should be done at least twice a day. Once rinsed allow for adequate drainage so seeds do not sit in water. They should be moist but not sitting in water. Use room temperature water for rinsing.

Sprouts breath while they grow. Keep them on a counter out of direct sunlight. Do not keep a lid on your sprouts. Even keeping a fan circulating air around your sprout trays is helpful.
Keeping your trays clean is important to preventing mildew from showing up. After each use the sprouting trays should be washed thoroughly. Using filtered water is also helpful.
Before moving sprouts directly to refrigerator they should be thoroughly dried. Let sprouts sit out in good air circulation for 12 hours to dry on a towel. Using a salad spinner is also a good option.
