MINIATURE PINK POPCORN SEED Miniature Pink Popcorn 105 days — 'Miniature Pink' popcorn is an old variety that grows six to seven feet in height and produces two to three ears per stalk. The ears are small, narrow and average three to five inches in length. The shiny, bright kernels range from pink to mauve to light purple in color and often have a pearly appearance.
The Miniature Pink Popcorn seed ear is an attractive pink or mauve color. The small narrow cobs average 3-5 inches in length. The shiny, bright pink kernels often have a pearly appearance. The plant grows 6-7 feet in height with each plant bearing two or three ears. It has a maturity of 100-105 days. The mini-pink seed is planted much like the mini-blue popcorn seed and has similar uses. It “pops”great and tastes good. The mini- popcorns have sort of a “nutty” taste when popped. The ears have many decorative uses, too.
So many people ask “How did you get the ears to be pink (or blue)? We answer that by saying these neat little popcorns are yet another miracle- they just grow that way! They are heritage/heirloom varieties, so they have survived through time because they have great sustainability and seem to do well even in adverse weather conditions.
CULTURE:Grow like sweet corn, planting early to ensure maturity of kernels for a good, dry ripeness.HARVEST:Normally dry corn is left out for several frosts, but the ears may be picked after the husks begin drying. Bring husked ears under cover to complete drying. Popcorn should be harvested when kernels are fully mature (hard and glossy) or they won't pop well. After husking, spread out the ears in a dry, airy place and allow to "cure" for several weeks. The ideal moisture content for popcorn is 13-14.5%. Periodic test-popping will tell you when the kernels are dry enough to store, either on the cob or shelled.
DAYS TO MATURITY:Maturity was recorded here at our farm. (Lat. 44.5°N). Corn will generally mature earlier farther south, later farther north, all environmental conditions being equal.
