Cosmos DWAFT-COSMIC RED 'Providing Nectar for Bees And Butterflies And Seeds For The Birds. 200 SEEDS-Packet.
Approximately 4,500 Seeds per oz
Direct sow in early spring after the danger of frost has passed. Seedlings are not winter hardy. Sow in full sun...A true sunshine worshiper. Prefers well drained soils so avoid heavy clay areas. DO NOT FERTILIZE. Rich, fertile soils tend to produce unusually tall, lanky plants with few blooms. Plants become top heavy and fall over. Cosmos can be a great cut flower with a vase life of 5-7 days. Harvest the blooms in the early morning hours, and select stems with flowers that have just opened. Remove the leaves below the water line. Generally trouble free, seldom falling prey to disease or insects, and they do not mind being crowded.
Our Cosmic Red Cosmos Flower Seed produces blossoms with intense scarlet coloration and contrasting yellow eyes atop feathery foliage.
Growing on compact, well-branched plants, the Cosmos series yields blossoms up to 2-inches across. Both the foliage and the blossoms are supremely attractive in fresh cut flower arrangements, as well as in your landscape or containers.
Tolerates poor, dry soil.
Cosmos flowers germinate easily and are widely adaptable to many soil types, making them an ideal flower for beginners or children, though even the experts grow them for their cutting gardens. As you sow the seeds, cover them lightly with soil, watering gently, yet thoroughly. With soil temps consistently at 72°F, Cosmos will germinate in a short 7 to 10 days.
