Fatalii Pepper Seeds

The Fatalii Pepper originates from central Africa. It is one of the top 5 or 6 hottest peppers known.  It ranges 100,000 to 300,000 on the Scoville Scale, but commonly tests at 250,000 or.more.Fatalii plants grow on average to about 2', but can grow as tall as 4'.

This is one of the hottest chilies in the world. It  is related to the Habanero, and plants grow to 4ft tall and produce many attractive wrinkled pods which ripen from light green to yellow/pale orange. .A very compact, densely foliaged plants bear an abundance of bright yellow thin-skinned hot peppers . Interesting shape and spicy taste make this pepper good to eat fresh, pickle, or use as a garnish. " Make Great Jamaican Jerk sauce !!green when young and turn yellow as they mature with fruits around 3" long.  Fatalii's thrive in full sun and do well in pots.Behind the Fatalii's intense fire, there is a citrus flavor with a taste of lemon and sometimes peach.

Germination Requirements

Like most peppers, fatali varieties take seven to 14 days to germinate and they require warm, moist conditions to sprout successfully. Planting the seeds indoors approximately eight weeks before the last spring frost or before the average temperature is above 65 degrees Fahrenheit, helps ensure even germination and healthy seedlings. Seedling pots filled with a sterile seed-starting soil that is kept moist throughout germination further aids sprouting. Germination occurs evenly when soil temperatures remain between 70 and 80 degrees during the sprouting process. Placing a plastic cover over the pots until the seeds sprout helps retain moisture and warmth during germination.

Growing Requirements

Fatali peppers require full sunlight for at least eight hours daily to reach a productive maturity. Locations that provide rich, well-drained soil and warmth further aids plant growth. Amending garden-bed soil with compost aids drainage and supplies some nutrients, but the plants also benefit from the application of an all-purpose balanced fertilizer at planting. Fatali grows best in soil with a pH level between 5.5 to 6.8, which most established garden beds provide. Soil testing allows you to determine the pH of new beds and amend them to alter the pH as necessary.

Basic Care

Once planted outdoors, fatali peppers require ongoing maintenance to reach maturity. Providing the plants with about 1 inch of water weekly, from irrigation or natural rainfall, supplies the moisture necessary for healthy plant growth. Mulching the bed with a 2-inch layer of an organic mulch retains moisture and prevents weed growth. Plastic mulch provides an alternative to organic options, and may help warm the soil in cooler climates. The peppers also need a second application of fertilizer or compost at mid-season, after the first fruits begin to form.

Maturity and Harvest

Plants begin producing peppers at maturity, which can take until 90 days after transplanting. Fatali peppers grow to 3 inches long and are fully mature when the peppers turn orange. The skin develops a slight sheen when full maturity is reached. Pulling peppers from the plant can damage it, so it's best to clip the mature fruits from the stems with clean shears. A mature fatali pepper plant continues to produce when you harvest frequently. The plant declines once temperatures begin to cool in fall.

Sow seeds indoors ¼" deep. Peppers germinate best in warm soil, so gentle bottom heat may be helpful until seedlings emerge. Wait to transplant outdoors until soil is warm.

Pepper varieties come from tropical humid regions. The temperature, moisture, and air circulation all play a role in growing plants from seeds. Too little heat, too much moisture, and lack of air circulation will cause poor results. Do not use jiffy peat pots, plugs, or potting soil as the soil becomes too dry or too wet, which can lead to disease and fungus. We have experienced disease and low germination when using these types of products. Use Organic Seed Starting Material for best germination results.

Growing Peppers:

Peppers, like tomatoes, grow in well-drained fertile soil. Almost all peppers have the same requirements for successful growth.  Plant them in good, well-drained, fertile soil – and make sure they get lots of sunlight and a good inch of water per week.  In many ways, they mimic the same requirements needed for growing great tomatoes.

At Planting Time:

We plant all of our peppers with a good shovel full of compost in the planting hole, and then give them a good dose of compost tea every few weeks for the first 6 weeks of growth.  We also mulch around each of our pepper plants with a good 1 to 2 thick layer of compost.

Peppers often like to take their sweet time germinating. They can be up in a week, and some will take almost a month. Even with paper towel germination testing, they can take long. I am not sure why, but it is a normal occurrence. So plan and make sure you start them early enough! Also, remember they like heat to germinate so make sure you have a heating mat or something to keep the soil warm. Placing them up on top of the fridge often works too since it is normally warmer up there.

Peppers do very well grown in pots.

Pickled Peppers

whole spicy peppers (whatever you’ve got)

for the brine

1 part water to 1 part white vinegar
(start with 2 cups to 2 cups, then keep adding if you have more peppers)

spices for the jars
(per jar)

- 1 garlic clove, peeled
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons black peppercorns
- 1 tablespoon Kosher salt

Bring brine mixture to a boil.  Wash peppers and pack jars tightly, adding spices to each jar.  Pour boiling brine over peppers and spices using a ladle and canning funnel.  Process jars in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes.

Or you can just make a jar or two and skip the processing by just putting them straight into the fridge.

Wait a couple weeks, at least, before eating.
