Productive warm weather pea with cold tolerance.
The sweetness of garden peas is legendary. Wando is our most productive pea in warm weather. It's also tolerant of cold, so it can be planted early. The blunt, dark green pods with 7 to 8 medium-sized peas are great fresh or frozen. Makes an outstanding winter crop in Zones 9-11. The best way to stretch the harvest is to plant early and late varieties. Direct-sow in early spring, again in midsummer for a fall crop. 200 seeds, sows about 30' of row. Our seeds are not treated.
Care:
Water by soaking will reduce danger of disease. Support for Vines will increase your harvest yield.
PLANTING
Peas grow best in cooler weather. They can be planted early in the spring and late in the summer, depending on your climate. Peas will germinate in about a week if the soil temperature is around 60 degrees F
Before planting peas, you need to make sure the soil is tilled down to a depth of 6 inches. Pea plants do well in loose and airy soil that drains well. If you have more compact, clay-like soil, you can add compost or other organic matter to help with drainage. Peas need 6-8 hours of direct sunlight everyday, so make sure to choose an appropriate location. Pea seeds are best sowed directly in the garden. Seedlings don't transplant well because they don't like it when their root system is disturbed.

Collecting Seed:
Select dry long healthy pods and remove seeds when pods have dried completely. Store Wando peas in a cool, dry area.
