Japanese sweet potatoes (Slips)- /Red Skin Yellow Flesh, asian vegetable,
also known as Japanese sweet potatoes or Japanese yams,
Sweet potatoes, or Ipomoea batatas, originated in Central or South America and have been cultivated by humans for over 5000 years. Today, there are over 400 strains of sweet potato grown around the world. Different parts of the plant, such as the leaves, stems and root tubers, are used for food, medicine and animal feed
Japanese sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas) .These potatoes can prove difficult to find, so you can grow the vines, called slips, to grow your own Japanese sweet potato crop in your garden.
Satsuma-imo, or Japanese sweet potato, is a sweet, yellow-fleshed strain. Traditionally grown in Japan and Okinawa, it is now available at grocery stores across North America. It is a staple food of the Okinawans, who are some of the healthiest and longest-lived people on Earth. Their good health and long lifespan are attributed, in part, to their diet
Nutty and mild, Japanese sweet potatoes have a thin red skin and dense Yellow flesh. They are a bit drier and more sweeter than the red skin white flesh vegetable you may also know as a yam or sweet potato. Often baked, candied or made into pies, they also make a delicious side dish when scalloped with sliced apples and a creamy sauce.

How we grow
I have started Japanese sweet potatoes,half-whiskey barrel containers.
I got just as much yield from the container as I did from a Raised Bed, but it was so much easier to harvest the Sweet Potatoes in the container. It would take me a over an hour to dig up the Raised Bed and find all of the Sweet Potatoes. With the container, all I had to do was to dump the container onto some newspapers and the Sweet Potatoes would just appear. No digging. No hunting.
Sweet potatoes aren't started by seed like most other vegetables, they're started from slips. Slips are shoots that are grown from a mature sweet potato.
The slips need warmth, so put them on a window ledge or on top of a radiator. In a few weeks your potatoes will be covered with leafy sprouts on top and roots on the bottom
Before you plant sweet potato slips, you have a little extra work to do. Sweet potatoes need loose, well-drained soil to form large tubers. You don't want the roots to face resistance when they try to expand within the soil. Loose soil is more critical than almost any other factor when it comes to growing sweet potatoes successfully.
It took my slips some time to arrive and when they did, they were in horrible condition. The leaves were all dried out and the whole plants looked all dead and wilted. I stuck them into the ground anyway and am hoping to be able to salvage at least one slip from the bunch. I wrote the company and informed them of the situation however, this request for a review is the first I have heard from them.
On April 10 I ordered Japanese Sweet Potato Slips. A month later I got an email hoping i enjoyed my order and would I like to reorder even though I hadn't received my order. I e-mailed the company 5 times asking where my order was and NEVER received a response. I started a PayPal inquiry and they contacted the company and never heard back. On June 1 I upgraded my PayPay concern. On June 13 th I heard that the order was unit's way. I wrote to cancel the order since I had already ordered elsewhere. The order arrived on June 17th even though I wanted to cancel. I'm going to see if I can still get a refund but I am not hopeful. Over 2 months to receive an order that I could never verify.
Almost 2 months and I have not received my item. No apologies, no corespondents. Very disappointed.
