Amaranthus (Amaranthus Caudatus Red) , Organically Grown-Matures in 50 days. open pollinated seeds!
Amaranthus is an amazing plant, lush red 'dread locks' sway around in the breeze or colour up any floral display. Truly unmatched in its exoticism (if that's a real word!). Flowers from August till November. Make sure this little number is planted in plenty of sun and it will provide you with a thrilling display... it looks like it was sent back from the future.
Love Lies Bleeding has lovely drooping 12 inches long tassels of flowers in bold crimson red shades. It looks great in hanging baskets or when given something to hang over (like a trellis, fence, or even an old tree stump) to show off its tassels.
Amaranthus (Amaranthus Caudatus Red) - Commonly known as Love Lies Bleeding, these unique flowers are extremely hardy, and they can grow just about anywhere from flower seed. This Amaranthus has elongated red flowers that hang to the ground. It blooms all summer long! Each Amaranthus plant can carry tens of thousands of flower seeds, and it will self-seed very easily. The amaranth genus, especially the seed, was used as a food source for the Incas and Aztecs.

Love-Lies-Bleeding is member of the amaranth family. Amaranths are a diverse species with plants whose foliage and inflorescence range from yellow to red to deep purple. In addition to producing very showy inflorescence, amaranths are edible. Both the leaves and the seeds are harvested as food all over the world. The leaves are used much like spinach and the seeds are used as grains. However, since amaranths are not in the grass family, their seeds are gluten free. Amaranth was a very important crop for both the Aztecs and the Inca. To this day, the seeds are still “popped” like popcorn, mixed with honey, molasses or chocolate and sold as snacks on the streets of Mexico.

To grow Love Lies Bleeding Amaranthus seeds, start seed indoors six weeks before transplanting outdoors, or sow flower seed directly outside after all danger of frost has passed.
