Erigeron linearis (Desert yellow fleabane)
Fast growing, heavy flowering, 4-6 inch tall plants produce endless, attractive ½ to ¾ inch daisy-likeflowers. These plants are a terrific ground cover or use in rock gardens, containers or hanging baskets. Flowers from June to October in Northern climates and almost year round in mild winter areas Winter hardy to zone 5.
Product Description
Desert Yellow Fleabane forms clumps of narrow leaves with yellow daisy-like flowers in early summer. 6” x 12” Sun to part shade, very gritty soil, low water. It has done well in our wet winters if grown in scree or well-drained rock garden soil. Hardy to –10 degrees F. Native to the drylands of Western North American. It produces a profusion of small daisy-like Yellow/gold flowers, fine textured foliage that fits well into lush landscapes. Erigeron is considered to make a good ground cover plant as it spreads rapidly and only reaches 8 inches tall by 24 inches wide. Erigeron is excellent cascading down banks or rock walls, in containers, or as edging. Part shade is recommended in hot locations, but it can handle full sun at higher elevations. Establishing easily from flower seeds, In low deserts the flower production is heaviest in the spring and fall, while summer color is the norm in colder climates.
Sow Erigeron flower seeds indoors 4 - 6 weeks before last frost. Use sterile starter mix and sow the flower seeds onto the mix. Because Erigeron needs moderate to ample irrigation, it is most suited to oasis zones. Erigeron can be cut back in the winter to remove any scruffy foliage. If ample water is available, this plant can re-seed in the landscape.
