An old snow pea variety now cast in additional new roles for its crops of red blossoms and subtly reddish-tinted stems and leaves. Shoots are used as garnishes and in salad
mixes. Preferred for both taste and tenderness. Small snow pea pods avg. 2½" long. 28" vines may be grown with or without support
The Dwarf Grey is a variety of snow pea distinguished by its tender pods and colorful flowers and foliage. Unlike many other pea varieties, it exhibits red or purple flowers, purple-gray-tinged leaves and hints of red throughout the plant. Plants reach just 2 to 3 feet in height and are considered a dwarf type; edible pods will reach 2 to 3 inches long. Monitor the pods for readiness once they're almost at that size.
Beans enrich the soil with nitrogen for heavy nitrogen users like corn and grains. Plant beans with carrots, celery, chards, corn, eggplant, peas, potatoes, brassica (mustard family), beets, radishes, strawberries and cucumbers.
GROWING
Direct seed in your garden as soon as the soil can be worked (about 2 weeks before the last expected frost date).Space your seeds 2-4 inches apart in well fertilized soil. Plant your seeds around 1 inch deep. As this plant grows it may need support in the form of a trellis to keep the vines off the ground. You won't need to fertiize this crop in order to get a healthy yield. Mulching the soil around this crop can help protect the plant and keep roots cool and moist. In frost-free zones, this crop can be grow throughout the fall and winter.
